A complex and intersting form of weaving. Originally developed by camel herders in Northern Pakistan. They would pick up the small bits of camel hair and put them in a pocket for later spinning. Once a single spun length had been made it would be twisted with itself. Then it would be combined with three other cords similarly prepared and spun the other way before being tied off at each end to stop it unravelling. These twisted threads are then combined by passing threads through the twists in each other. The finished item was very, very strong and used for making camel harnesses.

I assume the originals were natural colours, whereas now we use brightly coloured, contrasting or toning colours to create interesting designs.
